Teacher Center News

This has been a stellar year for our Center: many new in-service courses and workshops have reached hundreds of Port Washington teachers and their students. The Teacher Center is now planning for the 2012-13 school using information from the survey sent out last month (click here to take the survey). The survey yielded many comments and insights; careful consideration is given to any input teachers have provided.

There will be courses scheduled starting in the Fall. As mentioned in the April edition of CENTER PRESS the 2012-2013 New York State budget has reduced the annual appropriation our Teacher Center to half the 2011-2012 grant amount. If you sign up for in-service courses make sure to attend. Spaces will be limited due to the budget cut.

Featured In-service Course

Introduction to Microsoft Office 2010™

Come explore the new features of Microsoft Office 2010™ including an overview of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher. During this hands-on workshop, participants will work with Office 2010™’s new features to create dynamic documents, presentations and publications for the classroom. Participants are encouraged to come with “Where is that?” and “How do I?” questions that will be addressed throughout the course of the day. Upon completion of the course, attendees will have developed a technology infused lesson plan supporting the Common Core Learning Standards along with the integration of Microsoft Office 2010™’s dynamic new tools. Port Washington Schools will be upgrading to this new software suite during the summer.

The first session of this course will be held on Thursday, June 28th.
