· Students will be able to identify and assess important architectural styles.
· Students will recognize the name, location, and importance of significant landmarks and buildings around the world.
· Students will analyze the concepts of needs & wants and apply them to housing and environmental concepts.
· Students will create a housing budget based on career interests.
· Students will be able to apply interior design elements and principles to their own original project.
· Students will plan and build a model of their design.
Course Requirements:

· Being ready to learn and participate requires a pen or pencil and our class folder. The folder will be supplied for you and kept in class. Bring lined paper to keep inside your folder for assignments.

§ Cell phones, I-Pods, & other personal electronics are NOT PERMITTED in class and will be confiscated if used during class time. Class participation grade will be affected.

Homework Options:
Each quarter, you must complete any two of the following:
1. Article
a. You will choose one article from a magazine or newspaper that relates to housing & environment and bring to class:
i. A copy of the article
ii. A typed paragraph or a class presentation that includes:
1. Periodical Title & Date
2. Author
3. Target Audience
4. The Article’s Main Idea
5. What does this article express about housing & environment?
6. What are your thoughts/reactions after reading this article?
2. Reflection based on viewing of a housing or design related show.
a. You will choose one program that relates to housing & environment and bring to class:
i. Either a recording of the show or a link to where the show can be found or the date, time, and channel you watched.
ii. A typed paragraph or a class presentation that includes:
1. Title of Show
2. Target Audience
3. The show’s purpose
4. What does this show express about housing & environment?
5. What are your thoughts/reactions after watching the show?
3. Collage
a. Get your creative juices flowing… find pictures related to Housing & Environment and share them in a meaningful way. Pictures must be labeled, organized, and relevant to current class topic.
4. Film or Photograph a personal housing/environment experience. Photographs must be mounted and labeled. You must also include a brief description of rationale for choices made and personal reflection on the final product.
5. Interview a professional in the field
a. Create a list of questions to ask the interviewee.
b. Assignment must include questions and answers in written format.

Quarter 1: February 28th and March 21st
Quarter 2: April 26th and May 23th
